Preview: Farsley Celtic vs North Ferriby United (02/02/19)

By Thomas Ritchie

Farsley Celtic will be hoping to do the double over North Ferriby United as the Villagers make the trip to Throstle Nest.

“First and foremost, we need to make sure that we play well and we respect North Ferriby” Adam Lakeland

When the sides met at Grange Lane in November the Celts eased to a 6-0 victory against the 10-man United, thanks to strikes from Ben Atkinson, Will Hayhurst, Jimmy Spencer (x2), Luke Parkin and a Jack Smith own goal.

Farsley Celtic will be hoping to continue their promotion push and their fine form of late which has seen just one defeat in their last nine games.

That defeat came to fellow promotion contenders South Shields (1-0), whilst Adam Lakeland’s side have beaten Marine (2-1), Whitby Town (3-1), Witton Albion (3-2), Hednesford Town (1-0), Scarborough Athletic (3-1) and Stafford Rangers (5-0). Draws have come against Warrington Town (3-3) and Grantham Town (1-1).

On the injury front, Jimmy Spencer is expected to return after missing Tuesday’s Integro League Cup win over Stafford, whilst Jack Dyche remains a doubt.

Speaking to, Farsley Manager Adam Lakeland said: “You know your players are going to be motivated and expecting a difficult game when you’re playing one of the teams around the top of the league like we have in recent weeks with South Shields and Scarborough.

“But it’s these games, against the teams that are toward the bottom who are fighting for their lives where you can look at the league table and think you only need to turn up to get the three points. That’s never the case in this division.

“First and foremost, we need to make sure that we play well and we respect North Ferriby.”
Basement side North Ferriby United will be looking for a turnaround in their fortunes following a run of eight consecutive defeats.

The Villagers have fallen at the hands of Lancaster City (2-1), Warrington Town (4-0), Basford United (3-0), Hednesford Town (2-1), South Shields (6-2), Marine (2-0), Whitby Town (6-1) and Basford United (2-1).

Leon Smith will be unavailable through suspension, but Ferriby Manager Paul Foot has no apparent injury concerns.

Tomorrow’s game takes place at Throstle Nest, postcode LS28 5BE. Kick-off is 3pm and admission prices are just £9 adults, £5 concessions and £1 for accompanied U16s.
