Preview: Grantham Town vs Farsley Celtic (13/01/18)

5 months ago By Thomas Ritchie

Farsley make the trip to the South Kesteven Sports Stadium.

“We now have to focus on what are huge games coming up against Grantham and Buxton” Adam Lakeland

Farsley Celtic travel to promotion chasing Grantham Town on Saturday, looking to stay in the playoff hunt. When the two sides met at Throstle Nest earlier in the season, the Celts eased to a comfortable 3-0 victory thanks to goals from Ben Atkinson, James Walshaw and Paul Walker, who scored with a magnificent effort from inside his own half.

Farsley will be looking to rebound from their 1-0 defeat at home to league leaders Altrincham last Saturday at the first time of asking. Prior to that defeat the Celts had gone four games without defeat, emerging victorious against Campion (3-2), Whitby Town (2-0) and Shaw Lane (4-2), whilst drawing with Rushall Olympic (1-1). Farsley will be without the services of Adam Clayton who is sidelined through injury, whilst Chris Atkinson will begin a two-game suspension after accumulating 10 cautions. The Celts are still waiting to hear the result of their appeal against Dan Cockerline's dismissal against Altrincham. Ahead of the game Adam Lakeland said, "We now have to focus on what are huge games coming up against Grantham and Buxton and try to get as many points on the board as we can in the coming weeks.”

Second-placed Grantham Town have made an excellent start to 2018, and are now three games unbeaten, drawing with Ashton United (1-1) before Christmas, before going on to defeat Matlock Town (2-1) and Halesowen Town (3-1) in the new year. The Gingerbreads also possess the league's top goal scorer in Lee Shaw who already has 23 league goals to his name. Grantham will be unable to utilise the services of the suspended Tom Batchelor, whilst Luke Shaw remains sidelined with a long-term injury, however other than that manager Adam Stevens has a full squad to select from. Speaking to www.granthamtownfc.com, Stevens commented, "We have got ourselves into a position where we are contenders for promotion but the hard work bit starts by staying there."

The game takes place on Saturday at the South Kesteven Sports Stadium, postcode NG31 7XQ. Kick off is at 3pm, and admission prices are £10 adults, £6 concessions, and £3 U16s. If you can't make the game there will be full updates on Twitter with @FarsleyCelticFC.
