The board of directors are very pleased to announce that the Football Association have today approved a change of playing name for the football club from Farsley AFC to Farsley Celtic Football Club.
The football Club at Farsley has long been known as Farsley Celtic AFC. The distinctive name has made the club a stand out feature of the local community and further afield. Throughout the local community the club has still been referred to as ‘Celtic’, the name is regarded as a proud possession and we are very happy to have the name back. The club were forced to drop ‘Celtic’ from the clubs name as per FA National League System Rules, which state that you cannot re-enter the NLS under the playing name on which the club entered administration. The rules also stated that a club are unable to request for the playing name to be changed for 5 years. This period has now lapsed for the club.
Club Chairman John Palmer commented, ‘Once the decision to put forward a name change was made by the Board of Directors, Josh Greaves, Chief Executive, started a consultation period with various sections of the club. Opinions were gathered from the Supporters Club, Junior Committee, Ladies Committee and Education Partners. The process culminated in February when Josh Greaves and Robert Winterbottom travelled to the Football Association headquarters at Wembley Stadium to put forward the case on behalf of the club. We are very pleased with the decision’
Chief Executive Josh Greaves added, ‘Since the reform of the club as Farsley AFC, the club has continued to move into a great position. We find ourselves financially secure and with a great off the field situation in terms of administration and facilities. The club have continued to strive for promotion further up the non-league football pyramid throughout this period. It is great to be able to call the club Farsley Celtic once again when we are on such a good footing. I am proud to be taking over the rains as Chief Executive at the exciting time at the club. I would like to urge supporters old and new to get behind the club as we move forward into this exciting new chapter. It’s time to “get some Celtic spirit!”
