Report: Harrogate Town 3-2 Farsley Celtic

Pre-season got underway as the Celts made the trip to Harrogate.

Just over two months after the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division season came to a close, Farsley’s preparations for the 2018/19 campaign began on Friday night with a trip to Harrogate Town.

The hosts, preparing for life in the National League, ran out 3-2 winners in a competitive match in which Farsley matched their opponents for large spells.

It took just three minutes for Harrogate to take the lead, as good work down the right saw Ryan Fallowfield float the ball up to the back post where Jack Muldoon rose highest to head past the new Farsley shot-stopper Ed Hall.

Farsley did grow into the game and fashioned their first opportunity after Ryan Watson found Nathan Turner, but he dragged his effort just wide.

Ed Hall was forced into action to keep the Celts in the game, saving well from Aaron Williams before the Farsley defence managed to scramble the ball to safety.

The hosts continued to dominate as Fallowfield crossed to Lloyd Kerry and Ed Hall made an excellent save, before Liam Agnew missed a guilt-edged chance minutes later.

Farsley then drew level with just over five minutes to go to half-time, as Ryan Watson smashed a thunderbolt of a free-kick into the top corner from all of 30-yards out.

However, this only sparked Harrogate back into life, Jack Higgins making a great block to deny George Thomson after a swift counter attack, before they retook the lead as Muldoon’s low cross was turned home by Dominic Knowles.

Farsley made four changes at the break including ‘keeper Kyle Trenerry, who made an excellent double save, first from Jordan Thewlis and then from Josh Falkingham’s low strike.

Harrogate doubled their lead 10 minutes into the second-half, Isaac Baldwin committing the foul in the box, Jordan Thewlis rolling the spot-kick home.

Nathan Cartman almost responded immediately for Farsley, Ryan Watson doing well to find the Farsley frontman, before Cracknell saved well at his near post.

With just over 20 minutes remaining Farsley pulled a goal back, Luke Parkin playing Nathan Cartman through on goal with the ball creeping just over the line following a deflection, despite the best efforts of the Town defence.

The Celts had a couple of chances to pull level, Nathan Turner sweeping the ball over from the edge of the box, before Nathan Cartman then saw his strike comfortably saved as Harrogate Town ran out 3-2 victors.
