Report: Marine 1-2 Farsley Celtic
By Rob Winterbottom
Farsley took all three points at the Marine Travel Arena on Tuesday night, as they bounced back from last week’s defeats to Altrincham and Barwell with a goal in each half in a 2-1 win.
The Celts made the breakthrough on the half-hour mark when Isaac Baldwin got down the Marine right and into the box before striking home past Barnes and into the bottom corner. Farsley almost immediately extended their lead as they twice came close. James Walshaw first saw his shot deflected wide before having a header which narrowly went over the bar.
Six minutes into the second-half, the Celts doubled their advantage. Walshaw raced clear before being brought down by Grogan. The Marine played was dismissed for the challenge and Walshaw fired home the penalty. Farsley went looking to kill the game given their one-man advantage as Walshaw drew a fine save from ‘keeper Barnes.
However, it was the ten-men of Marine who scored next on seventy-eight minutes as Lomax got into the box and fired past Graeme McKibbin. Farsley though continued to press and in the closing ten minutes of the game could have extended the lead as Walshaw, Watson and Walker all had chances.
A good win on the road, which moved the Celts up to fourth in the EVO-STIK Premier Division, with 23 points from thirteen games. Farsley are once again on the road on Saturday as they visit Coalville Town, who the Celts beat on the opening day of the season 3-1 at the Nest.
