Match Report: Farsley Celtic 1-1 Buxton
By Paul Hatt
Celts and Bucks play out a draw
Despite the incredibly blustery conditions at Throstle Nest, Farsley and Buxton managed to provide an entertaining ninety-minutes that ended 1-1 but was a game that could have been won by either side at the death.
The Celts had the first opportunity of the afternoon after six minutes, when Will Hayhurst played in ex-Buck Paul Walker who had his effort saved by the feet of Theo Roberts. Walker was then involved in Farsley’s next best chance just three minutes later when his back-heel released Luke Parkin who was denied by Roberts feet once again.
Farsley dominated the opening twenty minutes, but Buxton then had a decent chance when the Celts failed to clear a free-kick and Tolani Omotola headed over when well placed. Then on twenty-seven minutes the Celts broke the deadlock. From a Will Hayhurst corner, Jack Higgins header was too powerful for Roberts at the near post.
The lead lasted just ten minutes, as out of the blue, full-back Bradley Roscoe fired from distance with his effort flying past Trenerry. Farsley though had a guilt edge chance to go back in front two minutes before the break when on the counter Hayhurst fed Walker, but who curled his shot wide.
Liam Hardy came on at the start of the second-half and proved to be a threat for the visitors. On seventy minutes he nearly gave the Bucks the lead, breaking through the Celts cover his shot was half saved by Trenerry and with the ball seemingly about to cross the line, great covering from Higgins managed to avert the danger.
Fifteen minutes from time, Farsley made a double-change and it nearly paid dividends immediately as Nathan Cartman nearly poked home after Roberts failed to claim the ball. Into the last five minutes and there were chances for both sides. First, Hardy broke and Trenerry made a crucial save. Farsley responded with a chance of their own, when Ben Atkinson was played in, but fired into the side netting. Deep into injury time, Trenerry came to the Celts rescue again, when Hardy created a chance for Grayson, with the keeper making the save to preserve a point for Farsley.
