Report: Brighouse Town 1-3 Farsley Celtic

Farsley Celtic made it two wins from two so far this pre-season after a 3-1 win away at Brighouse Town.
Three first half goals from Jimmy Spencer, Chris Atkinson and Ben Atkinson were enough to ensure Farsley walked away from a sunny Brighouse with a win.
Head Coach Adam Lakeland named three changes to the starting eleven from the team we saw start in Farsley’s 5-0 win away at Eccleshill United on Tuesday night. Kyle Trenerry replaced Elliott Wynne in goal, Ben Atkinson was in for Tyler Walton, whilst Paul Walker played up front for the absent Nathan Cartman.
The visitors struggled to get going early on, finding it hard to adapt to the warm weather conditions. Brighouse pressed at the Celts but failed to create any clear cut chances.
Farsley broke deadlock after seven minutes against the run of play, as a long ball over the top was met by Jimmy Spencer who lifted the ball over the keeper and into the back of the net with one touch.
Despite the game being fairly even, the Celts made it 2-0 ten minutes later after nice link up play set up Chris Atkinson, who made no mistake in finding the target from distance.
And after taking control of the game Farsley then made it 3-0 on 34 minutes, when Ben Atkinson cut in onto his left foot and curled the ball into the far left hand corner of the net.
3-0 was the half-time score.
The second half was fairly even with both sides struggling to create any chances.
Brighouse did have a sniff of goal on 57 minutes when their striker headed the ball goalwards from close range, but his effort went wide of the right hand post.
Brighouse however did pull one back with 20 minutes to go through a well taken goal by one of their trialists.
Farsley had a chance to make it 4-1 seven minutes later from a free-kick, but Jordan Richards’ effort was saved well by their goalkeeper.
Farsley were able to hold on to pick up a 3-1 win, and after the game Head Coach Adam Lakeland told us: “I think the weather made it very tough for both sets of players. We only have a small squad so they were probably able to make a few more subs than we were able to.
“I thought we scored three very good goals in the first half. It was a good work out and it was competitive. It’s good to win but we were disappointed with the goal we conceded. It was poor - a catalogue of errors but it’s better to get them out of the way now come August 3rd.”
