Report: Thackley AFC 1-6 Farsley Celtic
By Thomas Ritchie
The goals continued to flow for the Celt Army in pre-season, with a comfortable 6-1 victory over Thackley on Monday evening.
Braces from Nathan Cartman and Ben Atkinson, along with strikes from Danny Ellis and Will Hayhurst, helped Adam Lakeland’s side see off Thackley, having now scored 14 goals in three games.
After a quiet opening to the game it was the hosts who threatened first, as Kyle Trenerry produced a fine save to push Jack Normanton’s curling strike away from the top corner.
However, it wasn’t long before Farsley broke the deadlock. Luke Parkin took a short corner from the right to Tyler Walton, who floated in a pinpoint cross towards the back post for Danny Ellis who leapt highest to head home.
Midway through the first-half the lead was doubled, Ben Atkinson playing a great ball through to Walton who helped the ball onto Nathan Cartman, the forward beating the Thackley defender to the ball and slotting home.
Paul Walker came inches away from extending his side’s advantage, as his free-kick from 25-yards out went up and over the wall but hit the crossbar and bounced away to safety.
Within five minutes of the restart, following halftime, it was 3-0, Ben Atkinson finding the bottom corner as Luke Wilson palmed Jordan Richards’ cross straight to the feet of the midfielder.
Thackley had a great chance to pull a goal back almost immediately, Ray Sibanda finding space in the box only for Elliott Wynne to make a superb stop low down, before James Rothel crashed the rebound against the crossbar.
The hosts were made to pay for their missed chances as Ben Atkinson scored his second and Farsley’s fourth, Will Hayhurst making a great run
and laying the ball off to Atkinson who drilled home from 15-yards out.
The fifth goal arrived as Nathan Cartman added his fifth goal in two games, Isaac Baldwin whipping in a delicious cross for Cartman at the far post, who was able to volley home from close range.
With less than five minutes remaining the Dennyboys found the back of the net, Zakary Sansgter poking the ball past Wynne inside a crowded
Yet it was the Celt Army who had the final say, as Richards crossed for Hayhurst to slot home his side’s sixth from 10-yards out, wrapping up a comprehensive victory.
